5. Josh Thomson
You Just came back to the UFC from Strikeforce, became the first man to knockout Nate Diaz in impressive fashion and are wondering what’s your next step in your new company… How about start mentioning your name alongside current UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson and seeing if it sticks? You are now a couple of wins away from title contention!
4. Carlos Condit
You’ve been Interim Welterweight Champion. You’re respected among your peers. Viewed by fans as a real contender, you lost to GSP and Johny Hendricks, both by decision, no shame in that. Losing to the champion and the no. 1 contender pretty much puts you next in line, sort of. You have still beaten almost everybody who would be considered a contender and are only a victory or 2 away from fighting for the title again.
3. Frankie Edgar
Frankie. Frankie. Frankie. Has anyone ever fought in more consecutive title fights against less opponents? Really, I mean it. 7 title fights, 4 opponents, 3 years and Dana White itching for a reason to give him another title fight. With Dana White on your side you really don’t need another reason as to why Frankie Edgar is on this list.
2. Urijah Faber
The California Kid. Urijah Faber is one of the best mma fighters in the world and has been for a long time. He has name recognition and still has the skill set to put him at the top of whatever division he wants to fight in. All he needs to do is win and win convincingly and he will get another title shot.
1. Everyone in the Heavyweight Division… Seriously.
If you’re a HW in the UFC, then you are 1 (2 tops) victories away from a championship fight. 1 convincing win (2 or 3 if you are not as well known as the Cain’s and JDS’s of the world) and your name will inevitably pop up in title conversations. Maybe because you’re really good, possibly because you have been dominating, but probably it’s because at 3 victories in a row you have defeated over 35% of the division.
What do you guys think? Who would you add or remove from this list? COMMENT BELLOW!
