The Magnificent Seven

Will this be the western that finally reaches Tombstone levels of awesomeness? Yes, that Tombstone. You can argue with me all you want, but Tombstone will still be my favorite western of all time. Why? Because it IS the best western of all time. Period. Argument over. Let’s move on and talk about The Magnificent Seven.

Some of the greatest western movies ever made star Clint Eastwood as a one man gang. I have never been too big on this (in westerns). If you have one badass taking on everybody, then he can’t be joking around. For me, that’s a problem, cause I need my jokes. Who’s gonna be my huckleberry? It seems The Magnificent Seven finally has me covered.

A Magnificent Remake

Yes, a remake. This movie is indeed a remake of the 1960 film of the same name. That was, in turn, a remake of the 1954 Japanese classic Seven Samurai. So what is the premise of the most current iteration of this concept? It goes like this: The town of Rose Krick is put under the siege of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue. The town’s residents enlist the help of seven outlaws. They are headed by bounty hunter Sam Chisolm. But upon meeting the town’s residents, the Seven find themselves fighting for much more than money.

A Magnificent Ensemble

As the trailer above shows, there are big benefits to having an ensemble cast. The first being that you can have a character that brings the jokes. Thank you, Antoine Fuqua. Not only that but this type of movie can put together some major names. When the first name on that list is Denzel Washington, well, then you know you are going in the right direction. To follow that up with the likes of Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio and Byung-hun Lee and I’m in. Round out The Magnificent Seven with Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Martin Sensmeier. I don’t know about you, but that’s a movie I am going to pay to see.
