Battlefield 1 is an upcoming first-person shooter video game developed by EA DICE and published by Electronic Arts. While I like First Person Shooters, I tend to lean more towards 3rd person titles like GTA 5 and Mafia III as these games tend to have a more fun tone to them and better fleshed out stories for the single player campaigns. On top of that, they don’t lean as much on the classic online experience that gamers are used to seeing in FPS titles. Battlefield 1 is looking to change that trend. As per their publisher:
In Battlefield 1 you’ll experience a series of what we call War Stories: personal stories focusing on different protagonists with unique backgrounds and skills. While our characters are at war, the stories in Battlefield 1 are personal. They’re about people rather than history or battles.
One key inspiration for single player has been how people think, act, and play in Battlefield 1 multiplayer. Playing Battlefield games, you usually have an objective, a loadout, and a plan. That plan often comes apart as you’re realizing it, and then you have to improvise to make do based on the enemies and vehicles you might be facing.
Now, even though they are putting a lot of thought into their single player campaign, you know that EA would never release a Battlefield game without improving the online multiplayer experience. Looking as a great all around game that has a serious campaign is pulling me back into seriously considering purchasing an FPS to not only enjoy its campaign but to play online with others. That is saying a lot but getting constantly sniped in previous iterations of that other army game didn’t make me love the online experience of FPS, so a game that is motivating me to jump back in to the online pool is a big deal.
